Thirty-Four Dead in Bloody Campus Rampage
By tonet on Apr 16, 2007 in Strange Stuff
I was stunned when I saw the news on the morning of April 16. A gunman massacred 32 people at Virginia Tech in the deadliest shooting rampage in modern U.S. history Monday, cutting down his victims in two attacks two hours apart before the university could grasp what was happening and get the warning out to students.
Later, it was confirmed 33 were killed by a 23 year old South Korean national, Cho Seung-hui, a senior student in Virginia Tech.
News reports also said that he may have been taking medication for depression, that he was becoming increasingly violent and erratic, and that he left a note in his dorm in which he railed against “rich kids,” “debauchery” and “deceitful charlatans” on campus.
Cho Seung-hui arrived in the United States as a boy from South Korea in 1992 and was raised in suburban Washington, D.C., officials said. He was living on campus in a different dorm from the one where yesterday’s bloodbath began.
He reponsible for at least 33 deaths and 29 injuries has brought infamy to the scenic town of Blacksburg, VA, by turning the campus of Virginia Tech into the scene of the worst shooting spree ever.
In this instance, according to eyewitness accounts, he was lining up students and faculty execution style before gunning them down.
Police say he was shot and killed and now believe he was the only gunman. No further information has been released about the shooter, other than that he was perhaps searching for an estranged girlfriend.
The Virginia Tech Shooting Massacre is the “Worst In American History”
Let us pray for hope and peace especially to the family who lost their loved ones. My deepest sympathy and condolences to the nation particularly to the family affected.
