Put yourself first is not selfish
By tonet on Aug 7, 2007 in Life and Experience
Living your life for others is a very worthy feeling or sentiment. Research even tells us that helping others is good for our health.
But it is easy to forget that I can’t look after other people’s needs effectively until my own needs are at least minimally taken care of.
Putting others first sometimes but NOT all the time. It will definitely depend on a situation. Putting myself and my need to rest, relax, have fun sometimes, and so on, I guess will make me a better person because II’ll be healthier and have more energy.
I think putting yourself first is not selfishness. It can start to feel really liberating when I prioritize looking after my own needs sometimes. It will give me a new lease of life.

You know, I’ve had the biggest guilt when it comes to putting myself first before others. But I’ve learned that it’s best to put myself first sometimes because it keeps me in better focus when I decide to put energy to serving others. I think we all need to take time to take care of ourselves. Besides, you’re right, it’s not selfishness. It’s just a way of sorting out priorities!

I agree…
It may seem selfishness to others but how you you serve other people if you don’t feel good about yourself in the first place.
And how can you share love if you don’t have enough love for yourself?
