The One-Year Love Molecule
By tonet on Oct 29, 2007 in Love and Relationships, Strange Stuff
There’s now a scientific confirmation why that “ïn-love” feeling is so fleeting. A molecule dubbed by Italian researchers as the “love molecule” is abundant during that fresh flush of new love. But a year after with the same lover, the quantities of this molecule, known as the nerve growth factor (NGF), dwindle.
The Pavia University researchers found significantly higher levels of NGF in the blood of 58 people who had recently fallen in love compared to the blood samples of the group of singles and people in long-term relationships.
After a year of the same lover, however, the quantities of the “love molecule” fell to the same level as that of the other groups.
